The Yaphank Historical Society is headquartered in the Swezey-Avey House, located at 19 Mill Rd., Yaphank. Located within Brookhaven’s Swezey-Avey Town Park, it looks out on Willow (Upper Yaphank) Lake, and is surrounded by beautiful lawns and landscaping, with convenient parking. New playground equipment and picnic tables have been installed in the Park, and a small sandy beach serves swimmers and kayakers. A new spillway has been built and a fish ladder constructed. The new fish passage restores ecological connectivity within the Carmans River and is designed to pass river herring and trout between Lily (Lower Yaphank) and Willow Lake. A final planned fish passage at Lily Lake will connect both lakes to the upper stretch of the Carmans River.
Stop by and enjoy the park, and plan to join us at one of our General Meetings, open to the public, held on the third Thursday of each month, in the Swezey-Avey House, at 7:30pm. Check the Events pages for our Featured Guest Speakers.
